Road to the 56th Grammy Awards: Kacey Musgraves
Where it stops nobody knows…
Here at the Swift Agency, just a guy who wakes up in the middle of the night to write, we’re highlighting some of the other artists that we feel deserve recognition at the upcoming 56th Annual Grammy Awards.
Kacey Musgraves is nominated for four awards. She’s nominated for Best New Artist, Best Country Album for Same Trailer Different Park, Best Country Song for “Mama’s Broken Heart” and a second Best Country Song for “Merry Go Round”. “Mama’s Broken Heart” was co-written with Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally. “Merry Go Round” was co-written with Shane McAnally and Luke Laird.
She’s the newcomer, but she’s already a proven herself as a more than capable songwriter, with “Mama’s Broken Heart” turned into a hit on Miranda Lambert’s Four The Record album and penning the song “Undermine” with Trent Dabbs for the ABC TV series Nashville.
Here’s Kacey Musgraves’ featurette for the Grammy Best New Artist, Day in the Life:
And here’s Radio.com‘s Behind The Song feature for Kacey’s song “Merry Go Round”:
With the success of her album Same Trailer Different Park, specially the tracks “Merry Go Round”, “Blowing Smoke” and “Follow Your Arrow”, Kacey has highlighted Country Music that is not all about fun and games but about the grey parts of life. It’s a more serious and critical view at everyday life. I dare say that her music has a fresh helping of healthy dark side of Americana with it. This album pays no homage to trucks or beer (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Life is not an endless party and we need music for those parts. I think it’s one of the best Country albums as of late. Kacey’s Same Trailer Different Park goes against Taylor Swift’s Red for Best Country Album while “Mama’s Broken Heart” and “Merry Go Round” go against the Enchantress’ “Begin Again” for Best Country Song. Kacey also has a nomination for Best New Artist where she’s up against Ed Sheeran. That makes for a very interesting award show this Sunday.
Both Kacey Musgraves and the Princess in Red will be performing at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards this Sunday, January 26.
