CMA presents the Triple Play Awards at the Songwriters Luncheon

According to Country Music is Love, the annual CMA Songwriters Luncheon was the setting for the Triple Play Awards. The award is given to songwriters who are responsible for three songs that top the charts during a twelve month period. Quick, name a songwriter who has written country songs that have become hits one after another. Does she have blond curly hair and a sparkly guitar? Great minds think alike!

The event took place at the Pinnacle at Symphony Place in Nashville. Among the attendees were both artists and songwriters. The likes of  Dierks Bentley, Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and Keith Urban were in good company along with the authors or their melodies and lyrics. Taylor often co-writes with Liz Rose, such as in her first two albums, but for the next upcoming Speak Now she had no co-writers, since most of them were penned while on tour.

Here’s a highlight, what Taylor Swift said as she took the podium to receive her award:

“I absolutely live in awe of all the people in this room. I’ve had the time of my life knowing you over the years of writing with you. I think you guys just make other songwriters better. A lot of times I’ve gone back in my memories of when I started writing songs. I would sit there in my room and write a new song, and the first thing I would feel is, I’d feel proud of this new song. The next thing I would feel was fear because I was afraid that nobody would ever hear it. Then I was fortunate enough to meet people like Jody Williams, Troy Tomlinson, Scott Borchetta, and the team at Big Machine Records. Everyone at CMA has been so good to me. I’m very thankful that I don’t have to fear that no one is going to hear my songs anymore.”
