The CMT Awards: The Outspoken One gets the last word

Hello Taylor Nation! Here at the Swift Agency, one guy who was lucky enough to be attending the CMT Awards, couldn’t stop smiling last night. It’s no secret that Taylor had a lot of walls to break through at the 2011 CMT Music Awards. But it’s been always true that the Enchantress keeps a strong bond with her fans. Taylor Swift took the award of the night: Video of the Year for Mine.

Last night’s other big winners were Blake Shelton for both Male Video for Who Are You When I’m Not Looking and Web Video of the Year for Kiss My Country Ass, Miranda Lambert for Female Video for The House That Built Me, Sugarland for Duo Video for Stuck Like Glue and Lady Antebellum for Group Video for Hello World.

Among the great performances we had Sugarland with an emotionally charged Stand Up, Lady Antebellum who played their new single Just A Kiss and then did a cover of Prince’s Kiss, The Band Perry covered Eminem’s and Rihanna’s Love The Way You Lie before going into their own song You Lie and Jason Aldean sang Dirt Road Anthem bringing along Ludacris.

Here’s a recount of the night’s proceedings by the Associated Press:

Taylor took the trophy of the night, accepting via satellite from the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

“I wish I could be there, but I’m hanging out with 15,000 of my closest friends in Milwaukee,” said the Sparkly Dressed.

This is Taylor accepting her award – from the other side of the screen! Warning: Yes, you get to see a glimpse of details inside the concert. Nothing big, in my opinion.

She was sporting some new lyrics in her arm, this time a line from Faith Hill’s Fireflies, “I slept in castles and fell in love because I was taught to dream.” Brian Mansfield, USA Today‘s Nashville correspondent, has been doing some research (I was glad to help a bit) and compiled not only the origin, but the possible inspiration! Check them out at USA Today.

Initially, The Outspoken One was just going to appear on the opening montage. That in itself was amazing. In a parody trailer for a Taylor & Shania movie that I’d definitely go see, the Sparkly Dressed joined Shania Twain for a hilarious skit that involved shooting guns, riding like the wind, scaring Ron White, gawking at Chord Overstreet and picking up (and dropping off) the show’s host, Kid Rock. Country legend Kenny Rogers made a cameo. Also, for no real reason, they had Donald Trump pop in there.

I hope to find a better quality one, but here’s the Taylor & Shania clip in YouTube:

You can see the original clip on here on CMT.com (if you’re in the US).

Shania Twain just announced her plans to play Las Vegas’ Caesars’ Palace for a series of concerts. You can read more about it on CMT News. She took a spill when coming out to present for Male Video of the year, as she slipped before reaching the stage. Always a pro, she carried on and would later address the fall on a video clip. Blake Shelton, who was the recipient of the award, couldn’t help but kid:

That’s Blake Shelton, ladies and gentlemen. Don’t take him seriously and you’ll find him quite funny.

I want to send a shoutout to @harveymonster for actually getting me a ticket to see the show!

  1. I love Shania just glad she is okay. I have all her albums and glad her and Tay are getting to know each other. She sent Tay a signed copy of her book 🙂
