Happy 2012! Billboard’s Top Tours, Taste of Country Awards and Safe and Sound reviews

Hello Taylor Nation!

The usually-curly-haired-but-currently-wearing-bangs songstress started her year winning Artist of the Year, Video of the Year, Tour of the Year and Best New Pet (yay Meredith!) from the Taste of Country awards. You can read the original story at Taste of Country.

That’s Taylor with bangs on the set of The Lorax with Valery Ortiz and Zac Effron. The movie is, of course, animated but I believe the director wanted a set to get his voice actors in the right frame of mind – or it could be just for the interview/promo.

The Speak Now Tour rated fifth in Billboard’s Top 25 Tours of 2011 with a total gross of $97 million. Kenny Chesney is the other Country artist on the list trailing Taylor with $84 million. You can read the story at Billboard.

The Blonde With The Sparkly Guitar recently released her new single, Safe And Sound, to great critical acclaim and some not-so-great. In this really beautifully written article from No Depression, the author calls the song, “the kind of delicious thing that fantasy floats on”. Big shoutout to @paulwhitmoorfor pointing this article out.

I read all three novels from The Hunger Games saga during my New Year’s Eve vacation. Great read. I read Battle Royale too, which I know draws a lot of comparison given that the actual ‘game’ has similar mechanics – similar setting, but different plot. Strangely enough, other sites which I won’t mention, have taken to listening to the song and try to draw parallels to Taylor’s romantic songs without reading the novel (she’s never sung or written anything close to Safe And Sound). If you read the first novel you know exactly which scene the song is written for.

Up next for the Queen of Sparks? Well, the entire 2012 year! Seriously though, she’s nominated for Favorite Country Artist, Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Tour Headliner for the People’s Choice Awards 2012 on January 11.
