Hello Taylor Nation,
The 2012 Kids Choice Awards took place in Las Vegas tonight, March 31. The Sparkly Dressed attended and received the Big Help Award from the First Lady, Michelle Obama. The award was given to Taylor in recognition of her charity work which includes the efforts after the Haiti earthquake, her many donations of books to libraries, her many donations to schools both in her native state of Pennsylvania and her adopted state of Tennessee, her donations for the Nashville floods, the charity concert Speak Now… Help Now which donated all its proceeds for the tornado victims last year, her work with youth organizations, her rarely noticed work with the Make-A-Wish foundation, and… I could go on for ages. Only half of her charity work makes it to mainstream media and that’s only because she wants to inspire others to help.
“Thank you so much. I’m so honored. I’ve always wanted to meet you, this is amazing,” said the Outspoken One in her acceptance speech. “I’m so honored to get, to be, given this award from the First Lady of the United States. I am freaking out. And thank you to Nickelodeon, and thank you to all of you guys for being so supportive and making all of this happen.”
“I’m really happy of being here not only to accept this award but to tell you that, I’m really proud of all of you guys,” she added, turning it once more into a lovely thank you note to her fans.
“I mean, I see you out there helping out the environmental causes, I see you helping with organizations for people in need, I see you helping each other in school issues from bullying. I think it’s important that you know that you are making a difference in this world and I want you to know that I see that. And I’m so proud of you. And, as much as I try to help when I can, I’m really happy that you guys are trying to do what you can to just keep doing what you’re doing and this is my first Kid’s Choice Awards and you have made me feel so welcome and happy, thank you!”
Taylor was also nominated for Favorite Female Singer and Favorite Song for Sparks Fly. She didn’t win those, but at that point she had won the biggest award of the night. Big highlights of the show, rather than the performances on the stage, was to see the Outspoken One dancing along with her friends Selena Gomez and Katy Perry.
