Life was never worse, but never better: Wonderland is out on iTunes

We both went mad, Taylor Nation.

Wonderland is a bit of a hidden gem that us here in Canada actually got on iTunes on release week. The 1989 deluxe album has been in the Canadian iTunes since release week, although without the “You Are in Love” and the voice memos (so basically the same standard track list plus “Wonderland” and “New Romantics”). Anyway, now you can purchase the track on iTunes on the US (and hopefully worldwide too?).

But speaking about the Wonderland track itself, this is one that I’m glad it gets some attention. Whether it should be included in the standard track list or not, is pure speculation but the fact that it is a deluxe exclusive does give it a little bit of an exclusive feel. I find it a very indie-progressive-rock style song. Reminds me a lot of “I Know Places” which is a compliment for the Blonde With The Sparkly 1989 Microphone. Why? Because “I Know Places” was penned with Ryan Tedder while for “Wonderland” Taylor had Martin and Shellback again. That makes Taylor Swift the common link in the sound of both songs.

Before someone misquotes or oversimplifies that comparison, I’m saying there’s some common ground in the sounds and music which makes me think that’s Taylor that I’m sensing there. The melody stops and starts. It has some sharp edges but the stop-and-start rhythm doesn’t feel unfinished at all. It just works, or at least for me. Kinda feels like Taylor should have Kristen Wiig doing some interpretative dance to it. Yes, I hear a bit of a Sia flavor, not a particular song, just something akin to her style.
