But there’s a lot of Country in the girl, Taylor Nation.
Here at the Swift Agency, just a guy who still loves traveling to Nashville, we loved hearing about Taylor Swift surprise performance with Kenny Chesney at his first concert of the Big Revival Tour. And just in case someone is getting ideas (because people do that), that was a birthday kiss Taylor planted on Kenny. The Blonde With The Sparkly Guitar announced 1989 as her first pure pop album back in October 2014, something that was interpreted as leaving Country Music behind. Well, yes and no. Taylor might not be working currently on the Country Music genre but by no means is she literally forgetting her time as a Country artist.
Hence she had no problem appearing to sing Kenny Chesney’s “Big Star” at Bridgestone Arena with Kenny Chesney. Here’s the part where some people will stop reading my site: Country Music is inclusive, not exclusive. Don’t paint yourself into a corner of a genre by saying that you’re either Country or not. Country is about the local folk, the mom and pop store, the simple life, being true to your school and supporting the local sports team more than about how much twang is in your voice. Taylor may have paved the road for young country female singers but she’s also doing something else you might haven’t noticed. She’s unifying worlds across genres of music and talent. Taylor’s friendships are becoming legendary because she just pulls everyone to her like a magnet of niceness.
I know not everyone is a fan. I’ll follow Taylor as long as she is being true to herself. The girl leaves a genre of music to pursuit another but still takes time to perform at a friend’s Country Music concert? Ok, granted, it’s Kenny Chesney. Who does her performance benefit? Shouldn’t she be cementing herself in pop music? Do you dump your old friends because you changed schools?
By the way, Country Music does notice her. Taylor will receive one of the 50th Anniversary Milestone Awards at the 50th Annual ACM Awards.
Watch closely now, because Taylor is more than just business savvy. She’ll put her heart in her career and she’ll come out on top. Who would’ve thought being nice to people paid off?
