I don’t think you should wait, Taylor Nation. I think you should speak now.

Here at the Swift Agency, just a guy who’s often nostalgic, we’re glad to see Taylor still active in her friends’ lives. The Sparkly Dressed was a Maid of Honor over the weekend for the wedding of one of her childhood best friends, Britany Maack, to Benjamin Lamanna. According to E! Online (because yours truly is not a fashion expert) both of them wore dressed designed by Reem Acra.

During the same weekend, social media exploded with support over the court decision to keep Kesha contractually obligated to Dr. Luke, her alleged abuser. Taylor has been silent (so far) but has actually supported the female artist in a different way. She has donated $250,000 to Kesha Rose, as reported via E! Online and via a tweet from Kesha’s mother. It’s a direct help to Kesha’s camp since the court bills have gone up.

Why are so many people silent about this? Well, Dr. Luke’s production label Kemosabe is under the Sony label. Dr. Luke himself has been a producer for Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, One Direction, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Shakira, Ciara, Fifth Harmony, etc. He’s all over the music industry. Dr. Luke’s beginnings was as the lead guitarist for the Saturday Night Live band. According to Wikipedia, he came into music prominence in 2004 for producing Kelly Clarkson’s single “Since U Been Gone” with Swedish record producer Max Martin.

Still, Kelly Clarkson has been one of the acts to speak for Kesha, although not everyone has. If you remember your Tay-history, Taylor signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV as a songwriter when she was 14. Then there was what is called a developing deal offered by Sony which she dropped in favor of going with an up-and-coming independent label called… (wait for it)… Big Machine Records. Nevertheless, now she has had a few Sony marketing deals (that camera commercial).

See, this is why we can’t have nice things. One individual allegedly commits a heinous act, and associated acts have to tip toe around it. And yes, I have to say “allegedly”. Taylor Swift has had partnerships with Sony. I have no idea if she has an active one. I have no idea if she’s been told or she has decided to stay in quiet to avoid stepping on people’s toes or she’s protecting friend. I am glad that Taylor has chosen to support Kesha in no small way. Whether or not she will vocalize that support through social media is uncertain. As she has demonstrated with her donation, her silence is not inaction.

Money can’t buy happiness, but it sure seems to weight more heavily in court. #FreeKesha.
