…Ready For It? The Music Video is out!

Let the games begin, Taylor Nation.

So it was literally in the middle of the night, but the video is out. Let’s go to the video and we’ll go all comment-y just right after.

Watch it on YouTube

There’s a ton of movie tributes here for sci-fi properties like Ghost In The Shell, Blade Runner and Tron, but besides the ton of graffiti that people will endlessly pause to read (I definitely saw the 89 and 91 there) let’s see what grabbed my bionic eye on the first run. There’s two Taylors, one is the outsider hiding in the shadows and one is the encased in a glass display.

The one inside is all about image. There’s power there but it seems contained. The one outside seems to empower the imprisoned one to come out. There’s a price though. One “dies” so that the other may be free. One loses her identity (her face) so that the jailed one can be released. One was free, but kept herself covered, elusive. She gives herself up so that the one on display has her turn to shine.

I can’t help but draw parallels to Taylor balancing out her private and public personas. One will no longer be seen as Taylor, the other might be a little too powerful to be contained. There’s something inherently sad about that dynamic. Did I go too deep?

Perhaps I need another look 🙂
