Ladies and gentlemen, will you please stand!
The Blonde With The Pink Guitar started off by opening the 2019 MTV VMAs from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey with a short but poignant version of “You Need To Calm Down” before she brought the lights down to a glow for an amazing performance of “Lover”. We gotta see this one live some day. MTV posted the video on YouTube but unfortunately it’s region-locked (you had ONE job, MTV!). So we’re resorting to their twitter, which also contains the full performance.
She also got two awards during the ceremony, both for “You Need To Calm Down”: Video For Good and Video of the Year. She might have expected the first one, but she got caught by surprise by the second one. Then again, one kinda implies the other.
The Sparkly Dressed gave up her acceptance speech for her first (which up to that point was her only award) to Todrick Hall so he would be the one to send the message of that video.
It was only much later, that they won Video of the Year that the Enchantress delivered a message of her own. The caption at the top is wrong, that’s actually part of Todrick’s message in the previous speech. She brought everyone to the stage again as well as her co-director Drew Kirsch.
Lover is out now. Available everywhere. It’s getting great reviews and it’s already the most sold album of 2019 so far. We’ll wait for the final numbers of its first week.
