Taylor on the 2019 American Music Awards: Artist of the Decade

The winner takes it all, Nation of Swifties.

The Mother of Fighting Dragons With You was at the 2019 American Music Awards bringing it the only way she can. She performed, she danced, she won. The Sparkly Dressed started the night dancing away as she’s known to do, but she wouldn’t stay on her seat for long. Her first win was for Favorite Album Pop/Rock for Lover.

You’d think the highlight of the night had to be her being introduced and later receiving the Artist of the Decade award from Carole King.

She won the Artist of the Year too, because… I really don’t think I have to explain it at this point.

But actually, the highlight of the evening for a lot of us fans was hearing her perform. It started with her performance of “The Man” in what look like a long white shirt with her past albums written all over it in a standard font. She was joined by a group of young girls, whom them she gave a hug and proceeded to reveal a sparkly leotard. She would follow that with a rendition of “Love Story”, “I Knew You Were Trouble”, “Blank Space”, “Shake It Off” and a piano rendition of “Lover” accompanied by dancers.

Update! Let’s go to the video 🙂

The symbolism of the way that her albums were written on her shirt like a prison are extremely obvious. I actually feared she would not be able to sing any of her songs at that moment… until I heard the lyrics for “Love Story”. That’s when I could finally breathe. I guess we’ll never know what it took. That was a dramatic performance and a walk down memory lane that some of us are still recovering from.

She also won Favorite Music Video for “You Need To Calm Down”, Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Artist – Adult Contemporary. So basically, she won every single nomination.
