The Man: Behind the scenes, Taylor directs and commentary

No men were harmed in the making of these clips, Taylor Nation.

Here at the Swift Agency, just a guy who understands what the video is saying and why it needs to exist, we’re glad to have something to smile as Taylor Swift revealed more clips. We’ve got a Behind the Scenes clip and another featurette about directing solo – she’s been known to co-direct her videos for a while now. Let’s start with some laughs as T-Swizzle learns how to become “Tyler” Swift.

There’s a few interpretations of the video that I have that you might not agree with – there’s a lot of satire. It’s obvious that The Man wouldn’t be the type to take the subway. What that scene means to convey, as “Tyler” drops the ashes of his cigar on top of a woman’s purse, is how privileged rich elitists can mistreat women and minorities, hence the african-american gentleman with the briefcase who can only look. When The Man urinates on the wall with Taylor’s albums on it, this is not an ad against public urination. It’s about how certain men figuratively take a dump all over a woman’s craft such as Taylor’s discography. See the “no scooters” sign for a hint.

If you are not a man who abuses his privilege or demeans women then congratulations. You should not feel offended by the video. I just don’t understand why some men feel that this is the time to bring up the “not all men” chant. Can we agree that there are men who act this way and society does seem to give them more leeway and privilege than women trying to get ahead in their own careers? By the way, women getting a parade is not an argument so please stop bringing it up. Just saying. I don’t know what is it about parades for some people. Give me a quiet Sunday and a good book and I’m happy.
