folklore: Taylor Swift’s eight studio album is out. Track list and music video for “cardigan”.

I didn’t have it in myself to go with grace, Swifties.

She gave plenty of signs, by not giving any signs at all. Here at the Swift Agency, just a guy that might have been up late last night listening to music, we’re still a little dizzy. Defying every expectation (which any Swiftie will tell you is SO Taylor) the Blonde With The Guitar That Might Just Be Playing Some New Songs decided to drop an album by last night at the stroke of midnight and here we are. This is not a review yet, of course.

The tracklist:

  • the 1
  • cardigan
  • the last great american dynasty
  • exile (feat. Bon Iver)
  • my tears ricochet
  • mirrorball
  • seven
  • august
  • this is me trying
  • illicit affairs
  • invisible string
  • mad woman
  • epiphany
  • betty
  • peace
  • hoax
  • bonus track: the faves

The bonus track, “the faves”, is only available in physical copies of the album (so far) which are CDs and limited edition vinyls. I’ve been listening to it, but I’m not reviewing yet. I want to give it time to simmer and settle. I won’t hurry this, so don’t expect it just yet.

On other news, the music video for “cardigan” is out as well. This is a very subtle, rather introspective video that matches the sound and feel of the rest of the album.

It also has some surreal metaphors as Taylor immerses herself into her music by going inside her own piano. I found that speaks a lot about taking us inside her current mindset via her most self-reflective and alternative album.

I’m looking forward to many more listens of the album this weekend.

Coming up in the Calendar!

  • July 24: The eight studio album, folklore, drops at midnight.
  • July 24: The music video for folklore track “cardigan” premieres!
