Weekly News Update: A September cover. Sugarland’s upcoming single.

You can sing any song you want, Taylor Nation.

The Sparkly Dressed put out two acoustic performances on Spotify. One was her own song “Delicate” and the other was a cover of Earth, Wind and Fire’s “September”. By sheer coincidence I’ve been in a little of a disco/funk/classic r&b lately. “September” is at the top of my playlist. I’ll be honest here, I prefer the original version. I still appreciate that Taylor made her own cover of it, and even got some words of appreciation from one of the song’s writers.

“Taylor Swift is the absolute cherry on top of a very soulful and happy sundae,” commented Allee Willis in an interview for Billboard. Willis will be inducted in the Songwriters Hall of Fame in June.

The Blonde With The Sparkly 1989 Microphone (this nickname gets longer with every era…) has recently being stretching out her songwriting skills. She co-wrote a song with Pat Monahan from the group Train. The song “Babe” was picked up by recently reunited duo Sugarland for their new album Bigger. Taylor’s collaboration is not only as a songwriter. She also performs on the track. “Babe” comes out next week. You can read more about it on Rolling Stone.

News Update: Taylor Swift donates to RAINN

April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, Taylor Nation.

Yesterday, April 5th, was also RAINN Day and Taylor Swift made a generous donation to the organization. RAINN stands for Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (rainn.org).

Here at the Swift Agency, just a guy who has been meaning to address the almost secretive/minimalistic way that Taylor generally chooses to do charity, we’ve been happy about the way that she’s been taking a stand on her own views. However, let’s make it clear that this subject is not a political stance. Sexual assault is a crime regardless of political party.

So why does she choose to make donations without the photo op? I have a theory here that Taylor is self aware of how much certain naysayers (I cringe at using the word haters sorry) disapprove (foam at the mouth) at her mere involvement. She would rather keep the spotlight on the issue instead and not steal it (which let’s face it tends to happen anytime her name is mentioned). Funny enough, hat- (ugh, I can’t) naysayers are the first in line to notice Taylor’s name in the news (yes, we saw her already, quiet down). Sorry for the parenthesis spam by the way (it’s a nervous habit – oh crap, I did it again).

This is not the first time that Taylor Swift has made a donation to the cause. Going back to the days after the infamous civil trial suit-countersuit, Taylor did pledged a donation to Mariska Hargitay’s Joyful Heart Foundation shortly after the trial ended in August 2017 as reported by Huffington Post.

This Just In: Taylor Swift performs at the Bluebird Cafe. For real.

Happy Easter and this is not an April Fool’s joke, Taylor Nation.

Here at the Swift Agency, just a guy who had to check this several times just to make sure it wasn’t a prank, we’re sure that all the attendees were not expecting the Blonde With The Sparkly Snake Microphone to show up at the landmark venue in Nashville, Tennessee.

It all went down last night, March 31st, at the Bluebird Cafe according to the Tennessean. With about 40 people in attendance, songwriter Craig Wiseman, known for penning songs for Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney, was the main feature. Well, until Taylor Swift’s unannounced (but planned) surprise appearance.

Taylor performed acoustic versions of “Shake It Off” and the song she penned for Little Big Town, “Better Man”. Yes, I know you want video clips. The only ones are these clips filmed from outside with a phone, so the video and sound are of the potato quality.

“When I would play writers nights … I didn’t have the experience of a writer writing something and then it going out into the world and you earing it from someone else’s perspective until recently,” Taylor said according to the Tennessean, referring to “Better Man.”  “Little Big Town gave me the opportunity to feel that way … to be at the Bluebird and play a song you’ve maybe heard on the radio.  I will always be forever grateful to them for that.”

Wiseman recalled a particular CMT party in which he got her several shots of Fireball Whiskey. The Forever and Always Fearless One confessed she and Ed Sheeran stole Wiseman’s large inflatable Fireball bottle prop during said party. Wiseman then produced shot glasses and both songwriters downed Whisky shots.

Back when Taylor was just seventeen, she met Wiseman for a writing session in which she brought this song she was working on. Wiseman didn’t get it and passed on helping Taylor write the song, something he regrets to this day. The name of the song was “Love Story”. No, she didn’t perform it. That would’ve been too much salt in the wound.

The performance was being filmed for a documentary for Bluebird Cafe’s 35th anniversary. Don’t worry, I’m sure they used a better camera. You can read more on Taylor Swift’s appearance at the Tennessean.

On other news, there’s a new version of Delicate known as the vertical version on Spotify. Some fans, including myself, have not managed to see it except through video captures from other fans but it looks nice.

Weekly News Update & Tour Talk: March 18, 2018

Not a lot going on at the moment, Taylor Nation.

The Blonde With The Sparkly Snake Microphone, has kept mostly to media silence except with some necessary appearances. Here at the Swift Agency, just a guy who’s steer clear of news based on rumors, we’ve already commented on the possible reasons for Taylor’s silence. At least we did get an update on what she’s been up to in her acceptance speech at the 2018 iHeartradio Music Awards when she won Female of the Year. She is, indeed, on rehearsals for her upcoming reputation Stadium Tour.

And yes, it’s a large-venue-big-cities-only tour. She’s been getting some flak for the stadium venue and ticket price upgrade. Taylor has adopted Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program where fan club members boosted their place in line via… shopping. I’m sorry, I don’t think this is/was a good plan.

Positively, a lot of scalping was cut down. This has a predictable side effect when combined with the ticket rise: shows are not sold out on the first day. This has been heaven to detractors of the Swift brand which immediately claimed failure. The outcome that both Ticketmaster and Taylor Swift are hedging their bets on is that the shows will sell out at a slower rate, but more seats will be taken by actual fans that otherwise would’ve been sold at ticket reseller sites. It’s a bit of a gamble.

The bigger gamble for fans like me, is the lack of smaller venues. I’m not crazy about large stadiums. However, I recently got a peek at the VIP invite via Just Jared and the stage’s general shape is revealed. You also got to see this if you hunted for tickets through Ticketmaster (although I’m not sure it showed up for all city shows).

Based on that shape of crossed catwalks reaching into the audience from the corners, I have to guess that is a rather large stage. It could potentially give Taylor the ability to walk further and be seen up close by more of her attending fans. This could explain why this is a large venue only tour… She might need the extra space.

That also means, that the amount of fans getting a close up are multiplied and might make it worthwhile. I’m rather optimistic about this. Plus, Taylor usually adds some sort of more-than-meets-the-eye feature (the catwalks for RED and 1989 had some sort of transformation). I’m guessing that it’s her way to compensate since the walking-into-the-crowd segment and the B stage performances are getting really hard to pull. You can’t rise to fame without getting stalkers and security concerns are not just for the star – they’re for the audience as well.

Currently I don’t have tickets or plans, but chances are that I will buy into the hype… A bit unsure to be honest. Like so many other fans, I don’t feel like a good fan for skipping it. As I usually do when I feel conflicted, I listen to a lot of music and see how much gravitational pull the new album has for me. Perhaps I will wait until news start leaking out when the first tour concerts comes along. We’ll see. No, I will not be going for that VIP ticket. That must cost an arm and a leg.

The Sparkly Dressed gave us two clips of her rehearsals for the Delicate video this past week. Have a look. Yes, I’ve heard the comparisons to an ad from Kenzo.  My reference is a lot older: Fatboy Slim’s Weapon of Choice video with Christopher Walken.

The Snake Queen appears in the cover of British Vogue magazine for the January 2018 edition. The magazine features a 12-page shoot.

On other news, you probably saw Taylor Swift’s sets at iHeartRadio Jingle Ball and at Poptopia and are now pumped for a full reputation Stadium Tour concert. If so, you should check out Ticketmaster’s Taylor Swift Tix Official FAQ for any questions BEFORE your pre-sale date.

Dates range from tomorrow, Tuesday December 5 to Friday December 8. Here at the Swift Agency, just a guy who wishes best luck to everyone, we still harbour some hope for a smaller venue local concert. I will be honest, it’s looking a little bleak. You might want to get some chance than none at all.

May the odds be forever in your favour.
