Lady Antebellum is joining a group of performers in the charity event Stand Up To Cancer tonight, September 10, according to E! Online. Other performers include Martina McBride, Neil Diamond and Leona Lewis. The country group will perform along with Kris Kristofferson.
They have strong personal reasons to do this event. Charles Kelley’s father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer back in July 2009. “It was pretty scary,” Charles told E’s Marc Malkin. “But he’s fighting it right now. They shrunk it down to almost nothing. He’s doing really good, right back out working.”
Hillary Scott also has her reasons. Her paternal grandfather died from cancer. A close friend of her mother’s is fighting the disease. “She is fighting for her life right now. She’s working really really hard to fight it,” said Hillary. “I think so much of it is being able to rally together with your friends and family. And having that fighting spirit of mind over matter and doing everything you can do to stay healthy.”
SU2C (Stand Up To Cancer) gathers funds to support research as well as pushing for cancer treatment approval. As someone who has lost a parent to cancer, I commend them for their efforts. The event will broadcast live without commercials on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, E!, Style, G4 and many other networks at 8 p.m. ET/PT and 7 p.m. CT.
Coming up this weekend, is the much hyped MTV 2010 Video Music Awards, with Taylor up for the Female Video of the Year award.
