I have to agree with a lot of the things posted in this New York Times article. Our fascination with celebrities was the prime motivator for the Hope for Haiti telethon. But the event did manage to exercise restraint and dare I say it, some class. No star was announced except the ones that were shown taking calls when they identified themselves on the phone.
I write this blog for Taylor Swift and the Agency, so you will excuse me if I focus solely on her. I am fully aware the event was not hers by any extent of the imagination. I have donated myself to the cause, and I encourage you to donate as well through Hope for Haiti Now or your local charity organizations.
Taylor followed the trend of the show and appeared unannounced, performing a cover of Breathless by Better than Ezra. Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban and Kid Rock also performed a cover of Lean on Me. You can read more about it on CMT.com. The Fearless One, as well as her friend Selena Gomez, also got a chance to answer the phones. Swifty was shown getting a donation from a mother in name of her daughter. Somehow I think her daughter now wishes she’d made the call herself.
The performances will be available through iTunes for download with all proceeds going to benefit the victims of the Haiti earthquake. Here’s a video of Taylor’s cover of Breathless. Thanks to knmcma for posting.
Taylor Swift next appearance will be at the 52nd Grammy Awards ceremony on January 31st. It will be broadcasted on CBS at 8pm EST. To donate to the victims of the Haiti earthquake, go to Hope for Haiti Now.
