Everyone deserves their time to shine

I’m not going to name-drop but I want to thank a certain country singer for helping me see that the big winner last Sunday was country music in general. In her words, everyone deserves their time to shine.

No, it wasn’t the Fearless One. I’m not telling so don’t ask. On a non-related topic, I’m so glad it’s starting to look like spring and things are starting to blossom everywhere..

Lady Antebellum took five awards of their seven nominations including Top Vocal Group, Best Song and Best Single Record. It was great to see them accepting their awards and I couldn’t be happier for them. Miranda Lambert was also a big winner with Top Female Vocalist and Album of the Year. She was ecstatic to get both and it was great to see her get recognized. Next time, ACM Awards please don’t cut off her producer as he was about to speak.

Brad Paisley got Top Male Vocalist and seriously, this guy’s got singing, guitar and comedic chops. More than one critic has mentioned he should do comedy – but I will say please don’t quit country music. Brad’s got some of the best and funniest songs I’ve ever heard.

I will congratulate Carrie Underwood as well as Carrie Underwood fans. I think she did a great work singing Temporary Home.

And finally, I will recognize Taylor Swift for many things I saw in these awards. She arrived and took her time with the fans first. She cheered and got up for everyone who was winning, even if it was her nomination. She fist-pumped the air for Cher and hugged Carrie as she won. She was a good sport for Reba’s jokes. She also brought along an a capella group from UC San Diego, the Tritones to sing with her. She put on a great performance and show remarkable skill with her voice, including one last note she held for a minute.

But most important, she was the first to show us that she can be happy when the award goes to someone else, and for that she’s a winner in my book. Then again she always was. We could all learn from that, so for I’ll refrain from putting other winners down just because they happen to be in the same category than the Fearless One.

Taylor Swift is performing at the tribute for Brooks and Dunn tonight that will air on May 23. After that the next stop in her Fearless Tour is in Lexington, Kentucky on April 29.

Remember to vote for Taylor! Yes, we get to vote for Taylor again! She’s in the first round for nominations from:

  • June 6: MTV Movie Awards. Taylor Squared considered for a Best Kiss nomination.
  • June 9: CMT Music Awards Video of the Year, Female Video of the Year and Collaborative Video of the Year

  1. Not my favorite post hehe. I agree that ‘everyone deserves their time to shine’, but there was no need to take that away from someone else. There was enough for everyone, I think. And yes, I’m talking about the Fearless One. She was remarkably ignored. And that’s an ouchie. Of course I congratulate everyone else who won, but I’m not happy for the ones that didn’t deserve them…they know who they are…
At least now people can’t say she’s a sore loser.
